CURRENT STATUS

Every day, around 1.1 million refrigerated trucks travel on European roads delivering food, pharmaceuticals, and industrial goods. These vehicles have two engines: one to propel the truck and another to operate the refrigeration unit. Often, both engines run on diesel, producing CO2 emissions and high levels of noise. This results in a significant pollution impact, especially in city centers, causing harm to both the population and the environment.

The current legislative trend in Europe for emissions reduction underscores the need for urgent, industry-appropriate solutions in the transportation and logistics sector. This trend is evidenced by the increasing number of Low Emission Zones (LEZ) in cities like Madrid, and by noise emission restrictions introduced with the PIEK standard, which is already in effect in countries such as the Netherlands, France, Germany, and Belgium.

The aim of the project is to develop different systems that enable efficient management of the logistics of the terrestrial transport fleet with the purpose of contributing to the reduction of polluting emissions. In this way, we also move closer to our objective of offsetting 100% of CO2 emissions.

Understanding this reality, leading transportation companies have decided to change the operational paradigm by transitioning their refrigeration units from diesel to electric. With our technology, they deliver their fresh products with zero emissions and low noise levels, either eliminating diesel entirely or partially. This, in addition to the evident operational savings provided by electric power.

When delivering refrigerated products, there’s often an issue: upon reaching a delivery destination, the vehicle engine shuts off to prevent overburdening local neighborhoods with noise, pollution, and CO2 emissions. Consequently, the electric refrigeration unit also stops. Depending on the outside temperature and the duration of the cooling interruption, these cooling stops can impact the integrity of the cold chain. By using the fully electric Plug-in system, the temperature of the cargo area remains constant, secure, and reliable even when the vehicle engine is off, supplying electricity to the refrigeration unit, allowing it to operate quietly and environmentally friendly. This way, you can maintain cold chain integrity or reduce diesel costs and eliminate emissions and noise during distribution stops.

In some cases, the Hybrid Kit can completely replace the dedicated diesel engine used for refrigeration. Additionally, it’s easy to install, retrofit, and non-invasive. By generating clean electricity for the refrigeration unit, it anticipates the decarbonization of existing trucks.

Cooling machines that don’t operate with their own diesel engine but rather with power taken from the vehicle require high speeds for the complete cooling performance needed. Depending on the application area, distance traveled, and outside temperature, refrigeration units can achieve very high percentages of independence.

The energy for this comes from recharging overnight or when the system is inactive, while the cooling machine can cool the structure or merchandise at the same time.

As a plug-in solution, the system is completely independent of the vehicle engine and therefore also independent of the vehicle’s start-stop systems.

The system consists of a separate unit with a powerful energy pack and a controller. It can be installed and connected to both existing and new vehicles.

One of our systems fully charges via a high-voltage cable in an hour, meaning electric operation is possible for several hours. Cooling can also be operated during the charging process.

During the journey, braking energy can optionally be recovered through a 40 kW generator and introduced into the power source.

The lightweight and ultra-powerful system uses long-lasting batteries with a runtime of up to 8 hours. Rechargeable in less than 2 hours by connecting the truck to the electrical grid or through energy recovery via the braking system, kinetic energy, this solution is cost-effective and low maintenance due to the use of electric and renewable energy.

Lithium-ion batteries can be charged at any transshipment warehouse in less than 90 minutes or with energy recovered from braking and decelerations (kinetic energy), providing fully electric cooling safely, without interrupting the cold chain.
