The I.T.V. perform diagnostic tests to verify the vehicle’s brake pressure. This test is due to the entry into force, on January 1, 2012, of the European directive 2010/ 48, which establishes that all vehicles dedicated to the transportation, whether of goods or people, whose Maximum Authorized Mass (MMA) is greater than 1 ton. They must carry out the new brake check tests to ensure no clutch failure is caused by the pressure plates.
In the case of vehicles with a GVW greater than 3.5 tons, the brake check test will be carried out with the loaded vehicle or, failing that, by the “method of extrapolation”, in accordance with the provisions of the ISO standard 20169.
All vehicles whose braking system is completely pneumatic may carry out the pressure verification test brake with the vehicle completely unloaded. To do this, it will be necessary to connect some sensors (1) to the pressure intakes of brake (2) planned for carrying out the test. These sockets must be located on one of the sides of the vehicle and be completely accessible to I.T.V. technicians.
